Writing Genres
What's The Best Genre for a Christian Writer.
"Genre fiction is a type of novel that has a more mainstream, populist appeal than literary fiction. Genre fiction traditionally comprises genres such as romance, mystery, thriller, horror, fantasy, and children's books."
All categories are open to Christian authors, but first you must ask the important question
will what you write in that genre glorify God and fit with what you believe?
This school in not to tell you what genre to write in, I have two other schools to help you discover your genre, but to make you evaluate your commitment to God through your writings.!

Fiction
Most authors choose this genre. It has many categories that fall under the title of Fiction.
Fantasy
Is one of them.If you do not want to write stories that deal with the real world and of its problems, then this genre might interest you. You want to take your readers away from reality with a fantasy world where they can just relax and in a world n
not like our own
I see no problem for Christians who choose this genre.
I am sure you can name many fantasy writers with books out now who are successful at it, and who's books have been made into movies. Their books may not mention Christianity, but have good morals, clean content, and themes.
Historical Fiction
Perhaps you are a History Buff, and want to travel back in history and show the struggles early christian suffered for their beliefs in God only to discover that the the love of God is available to all people regardless of race, creed, or color.
Or maybe you want to deal with the difficulties of finding love during that time period. Then this might be the genre for you. Showing the hand of God during this time period, and how God forged the
west into a land of hope for those with a dream for a better life for their families!
Horror
Personally I don' t write in the genre, nor do I think it is good
for any Christian author. To much guts and gore that can often build fear and discontent in the reader. We as believers want to build hope, and inspiration through our writings, and not fear!
Mystery
A good genre
Building a story from the start of the crime and following it through to the end where the crime is solved and the culprit is caught and punished. But you must be carefully here to not make your story to dark and disturbing to your reader by by adding to much gory details and descriptions about the crime. Remember you are writing for the Lord!
Paranormal
Another genre to be cautious of. It deals a lot with ghost, vampires, werewolf's and other such beings. There are many tv shows that have stories like this that attract many writers, but as always I say "Remember God"
Poetry
Think Of King David, he was a poet who honored God with his words. Poetry is a good genre to write in, even if you don't write Psalms like King david. You can honor God with your thoughts about him and the world he has created.
Romance
This is the top catagory for Fiction writers & It's also the one I write in!
It has a female and a male love triangle. Girl meets boy, falls in love, but their is someone, or something keeping them a part. They struggle to find their way back to each other but struggle with many trials along the way before they find true happiness.
Often the will question their faith as they search for true happiness and God. A great way to witness to trouble couple who often struggle to stay faithful to God in the mist of temptation from within and without!
Science Fiction
Usually deals with future worlds, outer space, and aliens not of our world
There have been many writers who deal in this genre and have sold their scripts to producers, like Star Trek, Deep Space 9, and more shows that I am sure you could name. So why not you, Christian writer. Just remember to always to make the show a good won and be a skillful writer and Christian at the same time!
Teen Fiction (YA)
This area if flourishing today with young authors both christian and no-christian all writing about the struggles of teens growing up in our world today. Dating, drugs, alcoholism, pregnancies, suicide, bullying, and so much more. All looking for hope and understanding in an often cold, cold, world. Many don't know God, or believe he exist. A Good area for a young teen christian who as a teen understands them and can show them a better way through Christ!
Note:
So you see there are so many genres to choose from, I've only listed some here/ It's up to you to decide, but always put God first and he will guide you in the way you should write to bring Glory & honor to him and reach the world through your writings!
